Western Suburbs District Hockey Club has been going strong since 1928 and continues to represent the Western Suburbs of Sydney.

Equipment & Uniform

What equipment do I need?

Basic hockey equipment includes:

  • Hockey stick
  • Shin guards
  • Mouthguard
  • Bag
  • Towel
  • Water bottle

We provide balls for training and pre-game warmups. If you are new to hockey, we can lend you a stick and shin guards until you are able to get your own.

Do I need a dentist-moulded mouthguard?

It is mandatory for players to wear mouthguards when playing hockey.

You can use a standard mouthguard, however a dentist-fitted mouthguard is recommended for the best protection. Check with your health insurance provider, as custom mouthguards may be included in your extras cover.

Do I need special boots to play hockey?

Hockey is played on watered synthetic turf. Hockey shoes or turf boots are recommended because they are designed for these surfaces and help provide grip.

Normal sneakers may not grip properly on synthetic turf and can increase the risk of slipping or injury.

Where can I get hockey equipment?

Specialised hockey stores such as Just Hockey stock sticks, shoes, shin guards and other hockey equipment.

General sports stores such as Rebel may also stock some items, although availability can vary by store.

What is the club’s uniform?

Men’s main uniform:

  • Black and White Wests 2026 jersey
  • Black shorts with a white stripe down the side
  • Black and White hooped socks

Men’s alternate uniform:

  • Black and White Wests 2026 jersey
  • White shorts with a black stripe down the side
  • White and Black hooped socks

Women’s main uniform:

  • Black and White Women’s Wests 2026 jersey
  • Black skort, shorts or leggings with club socks
  • Black and White hooped socks

All Wests team uniforms can be seen on the Playing Gear page.

When do I wear the alternate uniform?

The alternate uniform is worn when Wests has an away game and our colours clash with the opposition.

This may apply against teams such as Ryde Hunters Hill and UNSW. The club or team manager will advise if you are unsure.

Why is the women’s uniform different from the men’s?

In 2026, Wests entered a women’s team for the first time in 30 years.

The founding members of the team were given the opportunity to participate in selecting their uniform. The team wanted a different uniform from the men’s teams to celebrate their own team identity.

Where can I get my Wests Hockey uniform and other Wests clothing?

Wests uniforms are provided by the club each year to players. There is a one-off uniform fee for the jersey, shorts and/or skorts, which is included in your overall fees for the year.

If the jersey remains the same the following year, uniform fees will not be applied again. Wests socks are available through the club or selected sporting stores.

Additional uniforms, socks, training shirts, polos, hoodies and caps can be purchased through the Merchandise store.

Fees, Insurance & Registration

How much are my fees?

Wests was founded as a community club and remains a not-for-profit club. Any money earned is put back into the club, teams and members.

We are fortunate to have Holman Barnes and Bentley’s Wardrobes and Kitchens as sponsors. Their support helps us keep fees reasonable and in line with our club and community-first values.

Players and members are informed of fees once registered.

What do my hockey fees cover?

Your registration fees cover:

  • Wests Hockey registration
  • SEHA or SHA competition fees
  • Turf hire fees for competitions
  • Association umpiring fees
  • Team equipment
Do I need insurance?

Yes. It is compulsory for hockey players in NSW to be registered and insured.

Sydney East Hockey Association registration fees include Personal Accident Insurance and Public Liability Insurance, as well as Hockey NSW and related fees. For a full breakdown, visit the SEHA registration page.

What is the Player Portal?

The Player Portal lets players update personal details such as National ID number, mobile number, address and Wests Leagues or Holman Barnes membership ID.

The portal also gives players access to team game day details, individual goals scored and match results for games they played in.

You can access the Player Portal from the Wests website or directly at Player Portal. Login is usually your first and last name together with no spaces, plus your 4-digit PIN.

How do I change my registration details?

You can change registration details by logging into your Player Portal.

Can everyone see my Player Portal?

No. The Player Portal contains personal and player information. It can only be accessed with your login and PIN.

Is personal information and data shared?

Wests Hockey only shares relevant information with SEHA and SHA for hockey administration purposes.

We also confirm Wests or Holman Barnes membership details where required. No other personal information is shared outside Wests Hockey unless required for club administration.

Draws, Grounds & Game Day

How do I know where we are playing and what time?

The full draw for each team is available on the Draw page. Select your team from the dropdown and scroll through the fixtures or choose a specific round.

Each fixture lists the ground and links directly to the location. You can also use the “Add game” button to add an individual game to your calendar, or the “Add to Calendar” button to add the full season.

Each weekend, the Game Day hub provides current weekend details for each team. Players can also vote for Best and Fairest and Guts and Determination after games.

How do I find the ground location I’m playing at?

Ground details are available through the Draw and Game Day pages.

You can also view all ground locations on the Grounds page, which includes map links for directions and navigation.
